Located in Negros Oriental, Dumaguete is the province’s largest city and also serves as its capital and main seaport. It is also considered as a bustling city of various establishments and tourist getaways.
There has been an influx of visitors to Dumaguete’s shores due to the numerous attractions of beaches, dive sites and distinct marine life of dolphins and whales. These attractions draw a lot of tourists, particularly Europeans because it is easily accessible from neighboring Cebu City.
Dumaguete is known as “The City of Gentle People.” Filipinos are recognized for being warm and hospitable, but Dumagueteños possesses an extraordinary thoughtfulness and caring, therefore leaving an impression amongst visitors of being the gentlest and friendliest of all. This is what makes them special.
Dumaguete is also referred to as a University Town. Students from surrounding provinces prefer to go to the Dumaguete to pursue their tertiary education in one of the seven colleges and universities located there. One of these universities is Silliman University, the country’s first Protestant University and the first and oldest American-based University in Asia.
Dumaguete is located outside the typhoon belt so tourists can go there whenever they want all throughout the year, though some will encounter a little rain during the wet season from June until November. However, it is still much preferred and recommended for tourists to go to Dumaguete during the dry season to let them enjoy the city’s hot spots.
