Aurora, Quezon may just be Philippine diving’s undiscovered gem. Aurora provides divers with a great number of prime spots waiting to be discovered by the adventurous diver. Its pristine reefs and coral-lined shores are a sight to behold. One main snag, however, is the lack of scuba diving equipment and tank refilling facilities in the area. But if you were to bring your own equipment, you may find that the Aurora scuba diving experience is definitely a unique experience.

Best Times to Go

March to May are the best times to go scuba diving in Aurora as these are when the waves are at their calmest and great for divers who want to go further up the coast.

June to October are the months to avoid, a time when raging typhoons hit the area and make the waves more suitable for surfing rather than diving. October to February still has some pretty strong waves, but diving is still possible provided a sturdy diving boat is used.

Aurora Diving Spots

The beauty of diving in Aurora is that you are left to discover virtually untouched diving sites in the area, giving you that “explorer to the unknown” feel. One can also try asking locals about the best dive areas. Among those recommended are:

Borlongan Beach: Located 2 miles offshore, one will find a mushroom-shaped coral reef that runs more than 150 feet to the bottom.

Baler: The adjacent areas of the Aniao Islets, Cemento Beach, Dimadimalangat Islet, and the Lukso-Lukso Islets are dotted with numerous coral reefs and formations that are worth taking a look into.

Dicasalarin. Discasalarin is full of marvelous coral formations as yet unsullied by dynamite fishers and the general grime of modern civilization.

You may also want to investigate the coral reef offshore of Casiguran and Dilasag, where many potential diving spots still lie barely explored. The deep waters of Dibut Bay are also home to many species of marine life.
