    • Sumaguing Cave

    Sumaguing Cave, Sagada

    Sumaguing Cave has the largest chamber connecting all the 60 caves of the town. It is also known as the Big Cave. It is the most popular and most visited site in Sagada. Stalagmites and stalactites form inside the caves over millions of years and are truly a sight to behold. These formations in Sumaguing Cave are given different names based on their forms. Examples are pregnant woman, Mickey Mouse, rice terraces, and others. It is an evidence of untouched nature that we should keep and protect.

    Lumiang Burial Cave

    Lumiang Burial Cave, Sagada

    Lumiang Burial Cave, on the other hand, is known for the piled coffins of the early people buried inside it. These coffins can be found at the entrance to Lumiang Cave. After entering, it will lead you to a stiff, narrow, and difficult trail to its end, passing to Sumaguing Cave. The Lumiang to Sumaguing connection is best for more daring cavers.

    Pongas Falls

    Pongas Falls is the newest discovered attraction in Sagada. One can choose whether to do the river trekking or use the mountain trail. River trekking takes about 2hours with minor bouldering and rope segments. Mountain trail is much easier.

    Bokong Falls/Small Falls

    Bokong Falls, Sagada

    Bokong Falls, though not as tall as Bomod-ok Falls, is still a worthy site to visit. It is 20 feet in height and is located only a short walk away from the town. There is a waterfall at the edge of the rice fields and is 17 feet deep, best for those who want to freshen up their itinerary.

    Rice Terraces – Banga-an

    The Rice Terraces are hailed as the “eighth wonder of the world.” They are carved out of the mountains by the ancient Igorots to maximize the farming space. ¬Every step is laboriously piled out of small rocks, creating a strong foundation of the rice lands. The rice terraces were built using advanced engineering techniques and skills to prevent soil erosion. It is indeed a remarkable proof of Filipino intelligence, and also hard work and creativity that leads to a greater value of tourism all over the world.

    Echo Valley / Hanging Coffins

    Echo Valley is the memorial cliff where the hanging coffins can be found. Most of the Sagada people prefer to bury their deceased in caves or hanging coffins rather than the ground because according to their beliefs, the higher the body is, the closest they are to heaven, and also to protect the bodies from natural disasters like earthquakes and floods.

    Pottery has a major part in Sagadan culture. The ancient locals use earthen jars to do their rituals. They value those jars and they whisper a ritual before opening any of them. It is the showpiece of Sagada’s native culture, an art of their belief that will remain intact.

    Nice easy waves off the Monaliza Resort, by far the most popular surfing spot in La Union. Produces both lefts and rights, so it keeps both naturals and goofy’s happy.

    The wave works both right and left with the left being the longer ride over a sand bottom.

    There are numerous other spots littered up and down the coast from San Fernando. Waves can be caught on the coast from Tabok, Bacnotan, Cabaroan and also south of San Fernando off the airport and depending on time of year right down to Bauang.

    Bacuit Bay

    Bacuit Bay is composed of islands and islets where most of which are occupied by a mass of different marine species. Dugongs, turtles, manta rays, species of fishes, coral reefs, and the occasional whale sharks call their home here.

    Cadlao Island

    Cadlao Island, El Nido, Palawan

    Cadlao Island is the largest island in El Nido allocating a land area of 10.06 km2. It is the closest island to the town proper and has the highest peak soaring up to 640 meters above sea level. It is recognized for its white sand beaches, hidden lagoons and nature trails good for trekking experience toward its lush thick forest. One of its nature trails leads to the saltwater of Makaamo Lagoon. This Lagoon is surrounded by Mangroves where different kinds of birds can be seen.

    Cadlao Beach– El Nido, Palawan

    Beaches in Cadlao are Bocal Point, Natnat and Paradise Beach which is located at the Southern part while Sabang Beach in the North.

    Dilumacad Island

    Dilumacad Island, El Nido, Palawan

    Also called as the Helicopter Island, Dilumacad Island’s limestone cliffs resembles like that of a helicopter when it is viewed from a distance. It has beautiful 300 meters white sand which is a best place for lunch picnic and island hopping. There is also an underwater tunnel to its northern end and fringing reefs on the south.

    Miniloc Island

    Miniloc Island is where the first resort in El Nido was built. It first started as a diving station for Japanese and European tourists. The Big and Small Lagoons can be found there which scientists believed were caves that eventually became a lagoon because of the collision of the said caves.

    Lagen Island is where the Leta-Leta Cave, burial site of the Late Neolithic Age can be found.     Pangalusian Island

    Cudugnon Point

    Cudugnon Cave – El Nido, Palawan

    Cudugnon Point, like the Lagen Island, has an important contribution in archeological science. This is where jewelry and some potteries dating back to the Sung Dynasty (960-1279 BC) were found. Anthropologists believed that the inhabitants of the cave were from Borneo who travelled across the bridge that connected Palawan and Borneo. The roofs of the caves are inhabited by insectivorous bats.

    Matinloc Island

    Matinloc Island, El Nido, Palawan

    Matinloc Island is the longest thin island in El Nido. It has a secret beach of which is not accessible by boats because it is surrounded by sheer rock walls. You have to dive and swim underwater where there is the only way to pass through it like swimming inside a cave.

    It is also famous for the Kulasa Beach stretching a hundred meters of fine white sand.

    There are four dive sites in the island where the deepest one is about 39 meters deep, located at the South.

    Pinasil Island

    Pinasil Island – El Nido, Palawan

    Pinasil Island has a cathedral-like structure which can be access through Bangka, kayak and small boats. It is an important site for bird’s nest gatherers or locally known as Busyadors.

    Aberawan River

    Aberawan Mangrove River – El Nido, Palawan

    Aberawan River is walled with mangrove trees where several bird species can be seen roost among its stems. Tourists can also have a mangrove tour here.

    Ille Cave

    Ille Cave – El Nido, Palawan

    Ille Cave was one of the ancient homes of the early people in El Nido dating 12,000 years ago. Archeologists found human fossils, potteries and traces of an 8,000 year old cremation inside. It is frequently visited by tourists because of its archeological importance.

    Located at New Ibajay, it is a 45-minute drive from the town center.

    Balay Tubay

    Balay Tubay – El Nido, Palawan

    It is a bar along Calle Real which was before a simple house. Its age? 70 years old. Local handicrafts and paintings are on its display and live music is performed every night.

    Entalula Island

    Entalula Island – El Nido, Palawan

    Entalula Island is a perfect example of a tropical island because of its fine white sand lined with palm trees on the side. It is a good place for picnics, swimming or just for pure relaxation. Recently, it is turned into a rock climbing site so you can never get bored if you want a more adventurous activity.

    7 Commandos Beach

    Dumaguete Belfry

    Belfry Tower – Bell Tower, Dumaguete

    Built in the year 1811, the Dumaguete Belfry or Bell Tower was used by the early locals as a way of avoiding pirate attacks. This historical structure stands tall next to the St. Catherine of Alexandria Church facing the Rizal Park. Through out the years, renovations have been made to restore the tower’s beauty while still retaining its antiquity, which continues to gain distinction.

    Rizal Boulevard

    Rizal Boulevard is named after the country’s National Hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal. It has been said that he made a stopover at this famous landmark of Dumaguete and strolled around before leaving for Dapitan, Dipolog City where Spanish officials had him exiled under suspicion of leading a revolution.

    This historical place also serves as a Dumagueteño’s day break getaway. Everyday, crowds can be seen enjoying the natural sea breeze and enjoying the pleasures of simple life.

    This Cathedral was built during the Spanish times the same year the Belfry was erected. It has an open exterior where everyone is welcome to enter, pray, or just view its tranquil interior design.

    Silliman University

    Silliman University, Dumaguete

    Founded in August 28, 1901, Silliman University is the oldest American university in Asia and the first Protestant school established in the Philippines. Its old hallways have withstood the destructive events of World War II. Guests are recommended to view its old architectural structures along the busy streets of Dumaguete.

    Dolphin and Whale Watching at Bais Bay

    Located less than an hour away from the airport, Bais Bay is a haven for various species of dolphins and whales. You may see these friendly creatures swimming on the ocean as if partying for their freedom in their huge sanctuary. Some whale and dolphin species you can find are pantropical spotted dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, long snouted spinner dolphins, melon headed whales, short finned pilot whales, pygmy sperm whales, pygmy killer whales, and dwarf sperm whales.

    Tourist spots never end inside the town itself. The most exciting and remarkable places in Dumaguete can also be seen outside the city borders.

    Casaroro Falls

    Casaroro Falls, Dumaguete

    Located at the rough mountains of Valencia less than an hour’s drive from the city proper, Casaroro Falls is considered as a top destination for adventure tourists. At 100 feet in height but narrow unlike most waterfalls, the water gushes down intensely due to the high volume and gives the waterfall a solid white appearance. It is the most photographed waterfall in the whole province o f Negros. Its stiff and difficult trail is an exciting experience for adventure trekking.

    The Twin Lakes of Balinsasayao

    The Twin Lakes of Balinsasayao, Dumaguete

    The twin lakes of Balinsasayao (the collective name for Lakes Danao and Balinsasayao) are two small but deep freshwater crater lakes. Rising at 1000 feet above sea level and separated by a mountain ridge, Lake Danao lies to the southeast of the edge and Lake Balinsasayao to the northwest.

    Considered as a natural park, its reserves are rich in different kinds of species of fish, forest animals and trees. Even the tallest tree in the country can be found here, the Almagica tree, which grows a rarely 60 meters in height. The Japanese night heron, an uncommon species, have been recorded to be seen in this area.

    Apo Island

    Apo Island, Dumaguete

    Apo Island is included on the Philippines’ top 10 most popular snorkeling and dive spots. The marine reserves are protected by the National Integrated Protected Area Act (NIPA), sheltering over 400 species of coral reefs and 600 documented kinds of fishes. It is a key player to Negros’ tourism and in fact has been featured in a number of diving magazines.

    In 1996, the people of the Apo Island won an award for the best managed reef in the Philippines. The cash prize from this award was used for the innovation of the roadways to the town. Until now, the management of the Apo Island and its marine reserves are still protected not only by the government but by the concerned citizens of the island.

    Siquijor Island

    Siquijor Island, Dumaguete

    Siquijor Island is known by its nickname of “Island of Fire.” The stories of witches and shamans from this island give it this impression. But despite this, Siquijor Island still remains to be a top tourist destination, having easy access from Dumaguete City and various tourists’ spots via ferry.

    Hike to the peak of this mountain, which offers spectacular panoramic views of the Coron sunset. There are more then 700 steps leading to the summit, so be sure to bring some provisions with you. Setting out at 4:00 PM is recommended in order for you to reach the summit in time for the sunset.

    Siete Pecados

    Arguably the most popular spot in Coron, and made even more popular when a television show made Siete Pecados their setting. Legend has it that seven sisters swam to the main island to follow their parents and subsequently drowned. The spot where they drowned is where the islands are now present. Siete Pecados is a great snorkeling spot, and certainly one of the best in Coron.

The island has been declared as a game preserve and wildlife sanctuary in via Presidential Proclamation no. 1578 in 1976.     Fort San Pedro

    Fort San Pedro, Cebu City

    Fort San Pedro is the oldest and smallest fort in the Philippines. It was a triangular bastion initially built with logs and mud in 1565. When the Spanish came, it was rebuilt with stones and mortar and believed to be finished on 1738.

    Colon Street

    Colon Street, Cebu City

    Colon Street is the oldest street in the country. Built by the Spaniards in the 16th century, it was once became the heart of Cebu City’s business and shopping activities and was named after Christopher Columbus who is Cristobal Colon in Spanish.

    Basilica Minore del Sto. Nino de Cebu

    Basilica Minore del Sto. Nino del Cebu

    Basilica Minore del Sto. Nino del Cebu is a 16 century old church, the oldest in the Philippines. The story goes that a sculptured image of Santo Nino was spotted on the exact site left behind by Portuguese and Spanish explorers in 1521 preserved in a burned wooden box.

    In 1565, the church was initially constructed with hard wood, mud and nipa. On November 1, 1568, a fire hit the church but the image still survived though it was blacken. Some devotees believed that it is miraculous after those fire encounters. The church was rebuilt in 1602 and in 1735, the governor ordered it to be constructed with hard stone.

    Carbon Market

    Carbon Market, Cebu City

    The Carbon Market is the largest public market in Cebu City. It is a great place to find an inexpensive souvenirs and pasalubong. You can see a variety of products from wet goods to handicraft items imported from nearby towns and islands. Don’t forget to buy Danggit – a dried salted fish common in the Visayan region but expensive when you buy it in malls and in Manila.

    Cebu Taoist Temple is a towering temple elevated by 300 meters above sea level located in Beverly Hills Subdivision. Its entrance is a replica of The Great Wall of China and the structure was built in full colors by the local Chinese community.

    Cebu Heritage Monument

    Heritage of Cebu Monument

    The Cebu Heritage Monument is a tableau built by the National Artist Eduardo Castrillo. The construction began on July 1997 and inaugurated in December 8, 2000. It features some of Cebu’s important heritage sites and events.

    Mactan Island Tour:

    Mactan Island is known for its beaches and five star hotels. It is a tropical modern island for leisure and island getaway. Also known for furniture and industrial factories, Mactan Island is also acknowledged to the musical instrument production of ukuleles, guitar and other stringed instruments.

    Lapu- lapu Monument

    Lapu-lapu Monument, Mactan Island

    Lapu-lapu’s Monument is a constant reminder of a Filipino bravery. Datu Lapu-lapu, a Mactan Island Chieftain, battled with Ferdinand Magellan, a Spanish invader in April 27, 1521. The latter was slain forcing its army to retreat and leave the place.

    Magellan’s Marker

    Magellan's Marker, Cebu

    This wooden cross is a Cebu’s symbol and a historical landmark and well known in the Philippines as well as the tourist visitors. It was installed by Ferdinand Magellan as a symbol of peace between Raja Humabon a ruler of Cebu and his wife on April 21, 1521. Today, it can be viewed in a chapel next to Basilica Minore del Sto. Nino on Magallanes Street.

    Alegre Guitar Factory

    Alegre Guitar is famous for its quality handicraft products of string instruments especially guitar. Visiting this factory will give you an idea on how it is carefully crafted. Their shop sells various string instruments you can choose from like mandolins, ukuleles and of course, guitar.

    Mactan Island Aquarium

    Mactan Island Aquarium is a visitor’s attraction open to the public that showcases various marine life and species. It is the first of its kind in the Visayas that tours you to the underwater being, educate you to its importance and how everyone can protect it.

    Virgin de la Regla Parish

    Virgin de la Regla Parish is a National Shrine in Mactan Island. Some devotees say, it is the patroness of menstruation because the word “regla” is a local word for the woman’s monthly cycle. If they are having problems with their monthly period, they offer a prayer to the patroness.

    Virgin de la Regla, by Saint Augustine of Hippo Africa and his friars is the patroness of their rule. “Rule” is an English word for “regula”, a Latin word while “regal” in Spanish.

    Gilutungan Marine Sanctuary, Cebu

    Gilutungan Marine Sanctuary is a popular snorkeling area with very clear water which allows up to 35m visibility that eventually leads to the popular Gilutungan drop-off wall. It has a wide-range of coral reef that features a lot of anemone fish, damsel fish, batfish and occasional blue spotted ray.

    Pandanon Island is a great place for picnics and outings. It has a wide sand bar for beach activities, swimming or just for relaxation. There are pillars and cottages available for rent.

    St. Peter and Paul Church, Bantayan Island

    Saint Peter and Paul Church is a five century old Catholic Church located in the center of the town across the town plaza. One of the must-see if you get to Bantayan Island, this church was founded on June 11, 1580, the oldest parish church in Visayas and Mindanao. Formerly known as Convento de la Asuncion de Nuestra Senora, was made with corals and stones commonly found in the island. Its antiquity shows that it was skillfully built and a well-engineered structure.

    Ogtong Cave

    Ogtong Cave, Bantayan Island

    Ogtong cave is an ancient cave served as a fort by the Spanish forces during their colonization here in the Philippines. Today, it is a natural underground cave with an enclosed pool of brackish water. Before, the entrance was narrow but the residents made concrete steps for easy access. Don’t forget to visit this underground pool if you get to Bantayan Island.

    Malapascua Island is a tiny island located across the shallow strait from the northernmost tip of Cebu. It is a diving destination for foreign as well as local divers. It has an underwater plateau called Monad Shoal where some tresher sharks and manta rays can be seen.

    It also showcases a wide white sand beach known as Bounty Beach where you can go snorkeling and swimming.
